Basketball Game Preview: Willow Spring Storm vs. Clayton Comets

The Willow Spring Storm are taking a road trip to challenge the Clayton Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Clayton will be up against a hot Willow Spring team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Willow Spring snuck past Fuquay - Varina with a 65-61 win on Friday. Given the Storm's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Bengals are ranked 363rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Willow Spring can attribute much of their success to Brady Williams, who went 5 for 8 en route to 14 points and six boards, and Grant Overman, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Overman is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 36 games he's played dating back to last season. JyMont Kizer was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, Clayton came up short against Farmville Central on Saturday and fell 82-74.

Clayton's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Willow Spring, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Willow Spring came up short against Clayton in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 70-62. Can Willow Spring avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
