Basketball Recap: Lake Oconee Academy Comes Up Short

Lake Oconee Academy lost against Washington-Wilkes two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lake Oconee Academy Titans fell to the Washington-Wilkes Tigers 56-51.

When it comes to explaining why Lake Oconee Academy lost, don't look at Ansleigh Padgett. Despite the final result, she went 9-for-16 en route to 23 points. With that strong performance, Padgett is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Strickland, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Washington-Wilkes found their leader in freshman Samaria Young, who went 9-for-12 on her way to 18 points and five boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. Kaidyn Porter was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds.

Lake Oconee Academy's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Washington-Wilkes, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Lake Oconee Academy has already played their next game, a 67-51 defeat against Charlton County on the 18th. As for Washington-Wilkes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 66-48 victory against Brooks County on the 18th.
