It's playoff time, and Credo had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Valley Christian Vikings on Wednesday as they made off with a 24-0 victory. The Gryphon might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Zach McKenna was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Credo is 6-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise. McKenna was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April.
In other batting news, Thadeus Cole was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Credo is 10-2 when Cole posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Clayton Rucker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Credo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in five consecutive matchups.
Credo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Valley Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.
