Softball Recap: William Blount Wins High-Profile Game Against Baylor

On Friday, William Blount faced Baylor in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The William Blount Governors blew past the Baylor Red Raiders 10-2. Winning may never get old, but the Governors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Katee Owens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chloe Merriman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Blaine Bell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

William Blount's record is now 6-1. As for Baylor, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Coming up, William Blount will take on Sequatchie County in a tournament on Friday. William Blount's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Sequatchie County's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Baylor will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Knoxville Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on March 26th.
