Basketball Recap: Newberry's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Newberry put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Palatka to the tune of 78-25. Newberry has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Palatka, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newberry to victory, but perhaps none more so than Destiny Neal, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Neal is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Brandy Whitfield, who posted 25 points and five assists.

Newberry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Newberry's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Palatka, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Newberry will host Bradford at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Palatka, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Flagler Palm Coast at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
