Mt. Eden came out on top against San Lorenzo on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Monarchs put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 10-4 victory. Considering the Monarchs have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jayden Schafer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cristian Alvarenga was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Mt. Eden: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Mateo Romo was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Mt. Eden has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for San Lorenzo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mt. Eden will challenge rival Arroyo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Monarchs are on a three-game streak of home wins, the Dons a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Meanwhile, San Lorenzo is set to face off against their familiar foe Hayward at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
