Preview: Alleghany Trojans vs. East Wilkes Cardinals

Alleghany is 2-7 against East Wilkes since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Alleghany Trojans will look to defend their home field against the East Wilkes Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alleghany has three straight victories, East Wilkes has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, Alleghany had just enough and edged Elkin out 24-21.

Mack LeMasters had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 201 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 35-6, which was the final score in East Wilkes' tilt against Starmount on Friday. East Wilkes was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Despite the defeat, East Wilkes saw an underclassman step up: Reece Dobbins rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.

With Alleghany's win and East Wilkes' loss, both teams now sport identical 4-4 records.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Alleghany has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 156.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like East Wilkes struggles in that department as they've been even better at 221 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Alleghany came up short against East Wilkes in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 28-21. Will Alleghany have more luck at home instead of on the road?
