Volleyball Recap: Aurora Central Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Aurora Central came into Thursday's match having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Gateway Olympians on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Olympians back in September, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Aurora Central had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22.

Andena Torres paced Aurora Central's offense, picking up seven kills. Torres really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with ten. Kiyanah Shuler controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.

Aurora Central's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-15. As for Gateway, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Aurora Central will face off against Regis Groff at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gateway, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Arvada at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st.
