Tenley Smarr made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Zigler, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalie Blair, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 13 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Laurel Hill lost 15-2 to Baker on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Hoboes have lost by exactly 13 runs.
Laurel Hill saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skylin Baggett, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Alia Henderson also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Laurel Hill's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Laurel Hill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .427. It's a different story for Laurel Hill, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Central's hitters?
