Softball Recap: Branham Wins Going Away Against Leigh

Branham's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Leigh Longhorns as Branham made off with a 9-1 victory. The Bruins haven't had any issues with the Longhorns recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Jacque Connolly - Hojas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on CC Bonnard, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Sydney Short, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Bonnard wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Branham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Branham's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-7. As for Leigh, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Branham will square off against Westmont at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Leigh, they will challenge Leland at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leland has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8 runs per game on average), something Leigh will no doubt try to take advantage of.
