Preview: Mt. Zion Eagles vs. Manchester Blue Devils
The Mt. Zion Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Manchester Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Zion has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since September 8.
Last Friday, Mt. Zion was beaten by Bowdon 63-14. Mt. Zion was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-0.
Despite the loss, Mt. Zion had strong showings from Damian Sanders, who rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown, and Rashad Montgomery, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while Manchester put up plenty of points on Thursday, the same can't be said for Taylor County. Manchester blew past Taylor County, posting a 42-0 win on the road. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Manchester's seven-point performance the game before.
Qua Cooper was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 122 yards on only seven carries.
Mt. Zion bumped their record down to 3-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-3 Mount Vernon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.3% over those games). As for Manchester, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Mt. Zion didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Manchester in their previous matchup back in November of 2017, but they still walked away with a 10-6 win. Does Mt. Zion have another victory up their sleeve, or will Manchester turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
