In a matchup between two of California’s top 10 teams,
Mission Viejo established southern dominance against northern powerhouse
Folsom on Friday night.
Despite missing four-star Miami commit
Vance Spafford at wide receiver, the Diablos had no trouble moving the ball through the air. Ohio State commit
Luke Fahey completed 22 of 33 attempts for 322 yards and five touchdowns while Northern Arizona commit
Jayden Hill had four sacks as Mission Viejo moved to 3-0 with a dominant 53-14 win.
While Folsom has gone 8-1 against SoCal competition since 2010, Mission Viejo seemed to be on another level. The No. 3 team in California – and No. 11 in the country – moved the ball with ease on offense and contained Folsom’s electric five-star quarterback
Ryder Lyons on defense.

The 41-point loss for the Bulldogs is the worst for the program since 2006 when
Elk Grove defeated Folsom by 44 points.
The opening drive was an indicator of how the night would go for the Diablos. The game’s first snap sailed high, but Fahey recovered for a 26-yard gain across midfield. Two plays later, Fahey hit
Luke Karby for a 23-yard pass that put Mission Viejo in the end zone with just 37 seconds gone by.
In Spafford’s absence,
K.J. Woodbury Jr. scored twice in the first half on catches of 6 and 20 yards.
Dallas Miller and
Davonte Curtis each had rushing touchdowns in the first half and the Diablo defense forced the first of two safeties on the night to give Mission Viejo a 37-6 halftime cushion.
Sophomore
Jack Junker and junior tight end
Max Markofski each added 15-yard touchdown catches in the fourth quarter to provide a running clock and a 53-12 lead for Mission Viejo.
The Bulldogs punched in a score near the end of the first quarter as Lyons connected with
Rob Larson on a 22-yard strike to make it 14-6 after one. The lone score of the third quarter came on a double pass from Lyons to Larson to
Jameson Powell for an 11-yard score to make it 37-12. Powell, a Mississippi commit, had 12 catches for 174 yards.
Lyons, the BYU commit who recently was featured in a new Under Armour ad, was chased for -57 yards rushing while going 23 for 32 with 220 yards in the air.
