Panther Valley extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 9-10 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Golden Bears earlier this season, when they won 20-8.
Janessa Prudente put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Prudente was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Morgan O'Brien and Isabella D'Ancona did some serious damage despite the final result: O'Brien went 1-for-2 with one home run, while D'Ancona went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.
As for Mahanoy Area, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games.
On Mahanoy Area's side, Lilly Carl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Mahanoy Area let Hailey Mroczka and Naomi Kowalick run wild. Mroczka went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Kowalick went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Mroczka is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Allison Killian was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Panther Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mahanoy Area, they are taking a road trip to take on Pottsville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Crimson Tide have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.67 runs per game on average), something the Golden Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
