Baseball Game Preview: Valmeyer Pirates vs. Mater Dei Knights

The Valmeyer Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Mater Dei Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Valmeyer has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 10.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Valmeyer and Gibault Catholic, and Gibault Catholic kept the tradition alive. The Pirates fell 8-3 to the Hawks on Monday.

Landon Roy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Mater Dei didn't have quite enough to beat Waterloo on Thursday and fell 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Mater Dei saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Salzman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Valmeyer's record now sits at 6-15. As for Mater Dei, their record is now 4-13.

Valmeyer suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Mater Dei in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
