Baseball Recap: Philip Simmons Extends Winning Streak to Five

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Philip Simmons walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Andrews Yellowjackets on Saturday. The Iron Horses might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Nolan Clifford made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Philip Simmons is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-13 otherwise. Clifford was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Kyle Bachmann was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniel Ebeling, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Philip Simmons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Philip Simmons' fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-13. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Andrews, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11-2.

Philip Simmons does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Andrews, they will take on East Clarendon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolverines' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
