Cardinal Newman had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let the Pleasant Valley Vikings get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Cardinals sure are getting used to it with their 17th in a row.

Not much got past Callie Howard, who gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Pleasant Valley off the board. Howard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cardinal Newman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzie Kunimune, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Cardinal Newman pushed their record up to 24-6 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Pleasant Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-9-1.

Looking ahead, Cardinal Newman will face off against Hillsdale at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2, the Fighting Knights 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Pleasant Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
