Softball Game Preview: Mid Valley Spartans vs. Western Wayne Wildcats

Mid Valley has gone a perfect 10-0 against Western Wayne recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Mid Valley knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Western Wayne likes a good challenge.

Western Wayne's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Mid Valley hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Dunmore on Monday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Bucks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Ava Hazelton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Krista Cortazar was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalie Hricenak, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Western Wayne's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against Old Forge, falling 12-6.

Western Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Mid Valley, their record is now 14-1-1.

Mid Valley took their win against Western Wayne in their previous matchup on April 10th by a conclusive 16-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
