Basketball Game Preview: Lipscomb Academy Mustangs vs. Tyner Academy Rams

The Lipscomb Academy Mustangs and the Tyner Academy Rams will compete for holiday cheer at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Lipscomb Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Tyner Academy likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Lipscomb Academy strolled past Rockvale with points to spare, taking the game 64-47. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Rockvale are ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tyner Academy). They blew past Marion County 104-54 on Tuesday. With the Rams ahead 54-25 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Tyner Academy's win came from a few key players Lipscomb Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rodney Henderson III, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. The contest was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalvontay Moore, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

Tyner Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

The victory (which was Tyner Academy's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.2 points. As for Lipscomb Academy, their record is now 5-2.
