Softball Recap: Valley Christian Has No Trouble Against St. Ignatius College Preparatory

Valley Christian was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against St. Ignatius College Preparatory on Wednesday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 9-2 win. Considering the Warriors have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hannah Paquiz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Melody Gonzales looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Valley Christian got a big performance out of Makena Blauman, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sia Marsh, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Valley Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Ignatius College Preparatory, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Valley Christian is set to challenge their familiar foe Saint Francis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors are on a five-game streak of home wins, the Lancers a six-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Meanwhile, St. Ignatius College Preparatory will square off against rival Presentation at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
