Basketball Recap: Montpelier Extends Winning Streak to Ten

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Montpelier ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Edgerton Bulldogs 45-42. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 66-61 back in December of 2024.

Montpelier was led to victory by Kenneth Smeltzer and C.J. Fidler. Smeltzer dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Fidler went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points and five boards. Wesley Hartsock also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

The victory was the tenth in a row for Montpelier, bringing their record for this year to 11-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.1 points per game. As for Edgerton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montpelier will face off against Hilltop at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Montpelier is facing Hilltop at the right time seeing as Hilltop is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Edgerton, they will take on Paulding at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Paulding will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Edgerton surely won't give up without a fight.
