Basketball Recap: Sutherland Comes Up Short on the Road Against Mullen

Sutherland kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by the Mullen Broncos 52-17. The defeat continues a trend for the Sailors in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now lost seven in a row.

Eliana Dyer and Mahala Vasquez certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Dyer posted five points, while Vasquez earned three points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mullen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hayley Donohoe, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Riley Hegland, who had 13 points and six steals.

Sutherland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-23 loss against St. Patrick's on the 6th. As for Mullen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-37 win against Valentine on the 10th.
