Basketball Recap: Corona/Vaughn Picks Up Tenth Consecutive Victory

Corona/Vaughn came tearing into Thursday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.1 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Carrizozo Grizzlies to the tune of 55-13. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 23 points or more this season.

Corona/Vaughn found their leader in sophomore Harper Dunn, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 16 boards. Dunn has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 29 times she's played. Kassidy Lightfoot was another key player, putting up 18 points along with five boards and three steals.

Corona/Vaughn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Corona/Vaughn pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.5 points over those games. As for Carrizozo, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-18.

Coincidentally, Corona/Vaughn and Carrizozo will both be playing Alamo Navajo the next time they take the court. Carrizozo will head out to face Alamo Navajo at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while Corona/Vaughn will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
