Softball Recap: Mitchell's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game, Mitchell was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Mountain Heritage Cougars 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Grace Willis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Emma Cook was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Kylee Miller, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Mitchell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

The victory snapped Mitchell's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-8 record. As for Mountain Heritage, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mitchell is set to square off against their familiar foe Owen at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mountain Heritage will challenge rival Rosman at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
