Recap: Wauconda Bulldogs vs. Grant Community Bulldogs
The Wauconda Bulldogs had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 21-20 victory over Grant Community. That's another feather in the cap for Wauconda, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Wauconda to victory were Connor Vanselow and Cole Porten. Vanselow only rushed for 76 yards and and a rushing score, while Porten rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Porten was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards.
Grant Community's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Matthew Gipson, who threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Wauconda's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Grant Community, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-4.
Wauconda will head out on the road to face off against Belvidere North at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Belvidere North is on a five-game streak of home wins, Wauconda a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Grant Community does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
