Baseball Recap: Bardstown Takes a Loss

Bardstown extended their losing streak to ten on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-15. They lost 15-1 to the Nelson County Cardinals. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

As for Nelson County, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Considering they have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Nelson County's part, Dillion Coulter made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Coulter has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Balog, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. He has become a key player for Nelson County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Preston Walker also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

While Bardstown had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
