Basketball Recap: Denham Springs Takes Down Ranked Walker

On Friday, Denham Springs faced Walker in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Denham Springs Yellowjackets walked away with a 60-50 victory over the Walker Wildcats. The Yellowjackets pushed the score to 51-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wildcats cut but never quite recovered from.

Taylor Smith was her usual excellent self, going 6 for 9 en route to 19 points and five rebounds. Her evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Prai Nelson was another key player, going 7 of 13 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Denham Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Walker still got an impressive performance from Arionna Patterson, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. Patterson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kiera Fountain, who posted seven points and five boards.

Denham Springs' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Walker, the loss snapped their winning streak at 25 games and leaves them with a 25-1 record.

Denham Springs has already played their next contest (against St. Amant), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Walker didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-40 victory against East Ascension on the 28th.
