Volleyball Recap: Gilbert Christian's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After flying high against St. John Paul II Catholic last Friday, Gilbert Christian came back down to earth. The Knights fell 3-1 to the Benjamin Franklin Chargers on Thursday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

While Gilbert Christian ultimately came up short, they really made Benjamin Franklin work, particularly in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-27, 25-19, 25-11.

Malachi Myers paced Gilbert Christian's offense, picking up eight kills. Myers got some help from Bryce Kincaid and his 21 assists.

Coleson Bowen had an outrageously good game for Benjamin Franklin as he had 29 digs and three assists. Those 29 digs gave Bowen a new career-high.

The loss snapped Gilbert Christian's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-8 record. As for Benjamin Franklin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7.

Looking ahead, Gilbert Christian will head out on the road to square off against ALA - Ironwood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Benjamin Franklin, they have already played their next game, a 2-0 victory against Estrella Foothills on the 11th.
