Preview: Boonville Pirates vs. Oak Grove Panthers
The Boonville Pirates are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Oak Grove Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st.
Last Thursday, Boonville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-42 to Moberly. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Boonville has scored all season.
Even though Oak Grove has not done well against Warrensburg recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Oak Grove enjoyed a cozy 58-42 win over Warrensburg. The win was just what Oak Grove needed coming off of a 69-39 defeat in their prior match.
Maurkalip Riley was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Jaxon Weber was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Boonville's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Oak Grove, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Boonville strolled past Oak Grove when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 59-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Boonville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
