Baseball Recap: Rodriguez Finds Home Field Redemption Against Vanden

There's no place like home for Rodriguez, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Vanden Vikings 4-2. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Carson Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rodriguez let Ben Vaughn and Drew Beasley run wild. Vaughn scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Beasley scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Vaughn has become a key player for Rodriguez: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise.

Rodriguez now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Vanden, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rodriguez will host Liberty at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Vanden, they will be playing at home against Wood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
