Basketball Recap: Yreka Comes Up Short

Yreka was the 59-52 winner over Anderson when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Miners took a 66-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cubs on Friday. Miners fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Cubs since Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Yreka lost, don't look at Kamareon Rose. Despite the final result, he posted 21 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Laydon Luce, who put up ten points and three steals.

Anderson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryder Niederer out in front who scored 11 points and three steals. Niederer has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jagger Johnson was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Yreka has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points over those games. As for Anderson, their record is now 10-16.

Yreka and Anderson are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Miners will challenge Paradise at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Anderson, they will take on Winters at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
