Basketball Recap: Sanderson Falls Short of Balmorhea in the Playoffs

Sanderson and Balmorhea squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Sanderson had to settle for second. They took a 39-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Balmorhea Bears. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Sanderson's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Sanchez, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine boards. That's the most points Sanchez has posted since back in November of 2024. Emily Landeros was another key player, putting up two points and 11 steals.

Sanderson's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Balmorhea, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-10.

Sanderson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Balmorhea, they will venture away from home to take on Irion County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Irion County has won nine straight at home, while Balmorhea won eight straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
