Softball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Cathedral Catholic Dons

The Patrick Henry Patriots will head out to face off against the Cathedral Catholic Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Patrick Henry hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Patrick Henry and Bonita Vista have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Patriots took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Barons.

Zoe Rutherford put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Cathedral Catholic couldn't beat Mater Dei Catholic on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Dons fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 7-6. The Dons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ellie Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Riley Marlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Patrick Henry's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Cathedral Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.

Patrick Henry couldn't quite finish off Cathedral Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
