Basketball Recap: Wilmington Skates Past Gardner-South Wilmington with Ease

Wilmington posted their biggest win since January 25, 2024 on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers 51-22. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while the Panthers are ranked 710th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wilmington was led to victory by Lucas Rink and Ryan Kettman. Rink went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points and four steals, while Kettman made all 5 shots he took racking up 11 points and six rebounds. That's the most steals Rink has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Nelson, who posted seven points and eight boards.

Wilmington is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they dropped their record down to 1-17 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Wilmington is taking a road trip to square off against Streator at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilmington will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Gardner-South Wilmington has already played their next match (against Grant Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
