Softball Recap: Branford Snags 14th Victory in Last 17 Games

Branford barely beat Bell the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Buccaneers were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Laila Arnold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Payten Bates was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Jesse Frierson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Branford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bell only posted a batting average of .269.

Branford has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Bell, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.

Looking ahead, Branford will take on Suwannee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
