Baseball Recap: Orion Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Orion had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Bureau Valley on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Storm an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won three matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Griffen Tennant and Mason Laleman made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Tennant tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Laleman didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. At bat, Tennant scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Laleman scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those stolen bases were Tennant's first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddux Anderson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Orion's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Max Larson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

The win was the fourth in a row for Orion, bringing their record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Bureau Valley, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.

Orion and Bureau Valley will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Chargers are set to square off against their familiar foe Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Bureau Valley will take on rival Biggsville West Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
