Basketball Recap: Waterford Victorious

If Maeser Prep Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Waterford, they should've done a better job of containing Anne Howard. The Waterford Ravens snuck past the Maeser Prep Academy Lions with a 36-30 victory on Thursday thanks in part to Howard, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Suzanne Reardon was another key player, putting up a point along with 15 rebounds and five blocks. She is becoming a predictor of Waterford's success: when she posts at least three blocks the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when she doesn't).

Maeser Prep Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lillian Nolan, who posted 14 points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Dossey, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

The win got Waterford back to even at 3-3. As for Maeser Prep Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Waterford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 36-31 victory against Salt Lake Academy on the 11th. As for Maeser Prep Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. on January 21st.
