The La Salle Academy Rams will challenge the Pilgrim Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with La Salle Academy sitting on 43 straight wins dating back to last season and Pilgrim on six.
La Salle Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Kingstown, who was ranked 20th at the time (La Salle Academy was ranked first). The Rams put the hurt on the Skippers with a sharp 14-1 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Rams have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Gia DeNinno spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, La Salle Academy got a massive performance out of Phoenyx Silva, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Silva has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Lily Roumelis was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: La Salle Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Pilgrim earned a 5-1 win over Prout on Wednesday.
Pilgrim also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Gretchen Dombeck gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Pilgrim let Madison Tuirok and Genna D'Amato run wild. Tuirok went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while D'Amato went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits D'Amato has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Marin Prest, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
La Salle Academy pushed their record up to 18-0 with the victory, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.7 runs this season. As for Pilgrim, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Salle Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Pilgrim struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went La Salle Academy's way against Pilgrim in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as La Salle Academy made off with a 9-1 win. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
