Basketball Game Preview: St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders vs. Blanche Ely Tigers

The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders will square off against the Blanche Ely Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in St. Thomas Aquinas' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 20 contests.

On Monday, St. Thomas Aquinas really took it to American Heritage for the full four quarters, racking up a 77-38 victory. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Dwayne Wimbley Jr. was his usual excellent self, going 9 for 20 en route to 27 points in addition to five blocks and four steals. Those 27 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clarence Westbrook Jr., who posted 19 points.

Meanwhile, Blanche Ely entered their tilt with Dillard on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They enjoyed a cozy 64-48 win over the Panthers. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Panthers are ranked 343rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Thomas Aquinas pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30 points. As for Blanche Ely, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.

St. Thomas Aquinas came out on top in a nail-biter against Blanche Ely in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 79-77. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Thomas Aquinas since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
