Preview: South Aiken Thoroughbreds vs. Aiken Fighting Green Hornets
The South Aiken Thoroughbreds will head out on the road to take on the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, South Aiken was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-43 to Midland Valley. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Aiken in their matchups with Midland Valley: they've now lost four in a row.
South Aiken's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Terrence Smith, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six assists, and Javarse Houston who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points.
Aiken suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Lexington, falling 105-44. While losing is never fun, Aiken can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while Lexington is ranked third).
South Aiken's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Aiken, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 10-8.
South Aiken couldn't quite finish off Aiken in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 61-59. Can South Aiken avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
