Recap: Waverly Vikings vs. Wahoo Warriors
The Waverly Vikings pushed their score all the way to 59 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Wahoo 65-59. While losing is never fun, Waverly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Wahoo is ranked eighth).
When it comes to explaining why Waverly lost, one person who can't be blamed is Keaton Rine. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rine has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Heffelfinger, who scored 13 points.
Wahoo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dylan Simons out in front who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Kyler Elliot was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Waverly's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-8. As for Wahoo, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waverly will take on Mount Michael Benedictine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Michael Benedictine is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Wahoo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Blair at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Blair focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Tuesday.
