Basketball Recap: Starr's Mill Takes a Loss

Starr's Mill lost against Harris County back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Starr's Mill Panthers fell 63-50 to the Harris County Tigers.

Despite the defeat, Starr's Mill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lindsey Kopacek dropped a double-double with 23 points and 17 boards. That's the most points Kopacek has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Olson, who earned six points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Starr's Mill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Ja'Niya Broome was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-5 from downtown and dropping a double-double with 28 points and ten boards for Harris County. Broome is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Allana Coulter, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Starr's Mill's loss dropped their record down to 22-6. As for Harris County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers take on the Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Jackson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.7 points per game this season. As for Harris County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-44 defeat against Pace Academy on the 18th.
