Volleyball Recap: Rio Hondo Prep Takes a Loss

Rio Hondo Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Covina Bulldogs. The Kares were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Rio Hondo Prep wouldn't go down easily and took West Covina into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 20-25, 17-15.

Tara Riley paced Rio Hondo Prep's offense, picking up 21 kills. Riley got some help from Allie Scott and her 44 assists. Riley was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.

Rio Hondo Prep's loss dropped their record down to 13-10. As for West Covina, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-13.

Rio Hondo Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westridge at 5:15 p.m. on October 13. As for West Covina, they will head out on the road to challenge Rowland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
