Soccer Game Preview: Nogales vs. Sunnyside

Nogales hasn't had much luck against Sunnyside recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Nogales Apaches will head out on the road to face off against the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Nogales sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Buena.

Meanwhile, Sunnyside waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their defense stepped up to hand the Tigers a 9-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won eight contests by four goals or more so far this season.

They hit Marana with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Pedro Vega (5), Aaron Abarca (2), Johan Jimenez, and Adrian Gutierrez.

Sunnyside is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 59 goals over those 11 games. As for Nogales, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Nogales suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Sunnyside when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Nogales avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
