Basketball Game Preview: Abbeville Wildcats vs. St. Martinville Tigers

Abbeville hasn't had much luck against St. Martinville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Abbeville Wildcats take on the St. Martinville Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Abbeville comes in on three and St. Martinville on five.

Last Tuesday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Abbeville made off with a 48-47 victory over Lafayette.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Martinville). They breezed by Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy to the tune of 76-39 on Thursday.

St. Martinville's win came from a few key players Abbeville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Skylar Frelix, who posted four points along with seven boards, five assists, and five steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristian Batiste, who went 6 for 8 en route to 12 points.

St. Martinville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Abbeville, their win bumped their record up to 21-15.
