Preview: Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights vs. Monroe Central Seminoles
The Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights will head out on the road to take on the Monroe Central Seminoles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Wheeling Central Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday.
Wheeling Central Catholic was handed a 24-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Williamstown on Saturday. Wheeling Central Catholic had just enough and edged Williamstown out 50-47. The win was all the more spectacular given Wheeling Central Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Williamstown is ranked 11th).
It was another big night for Kaitlyn Blake, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Blake is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Addie Payton, who scored 12 points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Monroe Central waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 47-40 win over Caldwell.
Wheeling Central Catholic's record is now 9-4. As for Monroe Central, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Wheeling Central Catholic didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Monroe Central in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 41-37 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wheeling Central Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
