After both having extra time off, the Covenant Day Lions and the Porter Ridge Pirates will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Covenant Day has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Covenant Day is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Ardrey Kell, who was ranked 13th at the time (Covenant Day was ranked ninth). The Lions fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Covenant Day sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 19-25, 18-16.

The losing side was boosted by Duh Mang, who had 22 digs. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games he's played. Gibson Morris also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.
Meanwhile, Porter Ridge came up short against Metrolina Christian Academy last Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Porter Ridge couldn't get the win, but they sure gave Metrolina Christian Academy a tough time in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 28-30, 25-18, 25-18.
Covenant Day's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Porter Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Covenant Day has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Porter Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Covenant Day couldn't quite get it done against Porter Ridge in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 as they fell 3-1. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
