Softball Game Preview: Woodside Wolverines vs. Phoebus Phantoms

For the second straight game, Woodside will face off against Phoebus. The Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Phantoms at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Woodside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Woodside fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Phoebus on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Phantoms by a score of 8-7.

For Phoebus' part, Suniya White was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over eight innings while giving up seven earned runs off nine hits. White was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Aaliyah King was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gianna Illiano, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.

Phoebus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodside only managed five.

Phoebus is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Woodside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
