Softball Recap: Shelby County Wins Going Away Against Fayetteville

Shelby County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Fayetteville on Monday. The Wildcats blew past the Wolves 11-4. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Danslen Connell (2029) and Aaliyah Chaisson (2026) were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Connell (2029) didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Chaisson (2026) tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. At the plate, Connell (2029) scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Chaisson (2026) scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Catelynn Davis (2025) was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddy Minton (2030), who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Shelby County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fayetteville struck out ten times.

Shelby County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Fayetteville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shelby County will head out to square off against Central of Clay County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fayetteville, they will square off against Wadley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
