Basketball Game Preview: Santa Fe Indians vs. Friendswood Mustangs

The Santa Fe Indians will head out to challenge the Friendswood Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Fe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season.

Santa Fe is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 77-51 margin over Milby on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Santa Fe relied on the efforts of Aidan Jewell, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Kaidan Mata, who went 10 of 13 on his way to 21 points. The contest was Jewell's fifth in a row with at least ten points. John Pearson was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Santa Fe was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Meanwhile, Friendswood didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Fort Bend Hightower on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 77-71 victory. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Santa Fe's record now sits at 9-13. As for Friendswood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season.

Santa Fe took a serious blow against Friendswood when the teams last played back in February, falling 69-36. Can Santa Fe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
