Preview: Santana Sultans vs. Grossmont Foothillers
After four games on the road, Santana is heading back home. They will take on the Grossmont Foothillers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Saturday, Santana suffered a rough 76-52 defeat at the hands of Coronado.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Michael Mendez, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Mendez set a new season high mark in points with 13. The team also got some help courtesy of Dain Diaz, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Grossmont pushed their score all the way to 69 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 76-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valhalla. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (59), Grossmont still had to take the loss.
Santana has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Grossmont, their loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-7.
Santana didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Grossmont when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 48-43 victory. Does Santana have another victory up their sleeve, or will Grossmont turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
